Okay I’m going to start by saying yes, I know this isn’t music news and I know Kylie has had plenty of privilege in her life but can we please start giving women some credit.
It was announced today by Forbes Magazine that Kylie Jenner is the youngest ever self-made millionaire at the ripe old age 21. Her company Kylie Lip Kits by Kylie Jenner is the main contributor to her success.
As her family usually does, she is receiving some backlash about it. People are getting worked up about the ‘self made’ part of her accomplishment claiming she has only become rich because of her sister Kim’s fame, more specifically, her sex tape.
One person in particular has said this on twitter and its none other than the anti christ of feminism himself Piers Morgan. He has popularly dragged the Kardashian sisters many a time, this time picking on Kylie.
It seems Piers has a problem with women in power, especially those who are wealthier than him and Kylie is wealthier than him by a LOT.
Quite frankly I’m sick of this double standard of women having excuses made for their power and men being blindly applauded for everything they do. (!!!!!!)
(See this example of a whole post of men congratulating themselves for doing the bare minimum. Or this example of Captain America being applauded for Regina King up stairs at the Oscars. So you’ve decided to become a decent person, what a good boy, you get a trophy!)
Kylie had a head start with the fame of her family and wealth created by THEIR REALITY TV SHOW (not sex tape) but she has truely surpassed all expectations with the success of her make up company.
Kim has been trying to get that rich since she was Paris Hiltons assistant and she’s still not there. Proving that you can be one of the most famous people in the world and that does not necessarily generate wealth. Wealth requires passion, persistence and business smarts, these are a few of the many qualities Kylie has. She also has clever marketing skills, using her millions of followers on Instagram as product research and development. Her ability to completely embody the product she is selling using social media as her sales tool is incredibly smart, free and has revolutionised the way we sell products today. So hats off to you girl.
Kylie is the type of business woman I look up to and want all girls to look up to.
I’d love for her to be applauded, deservedly, without being discredited or dragged down by small men who are jealous that she is doing better than them.
ps: girl power
