If this is news to you I suggest you buckle up. I’ve spoken to a few people this week who have no clue as to why there’s suddenly all this talk about R.Kelly. Well, I’m going to detail all the disgusting reasons why this man needs to be stripped bare and walked down the streets, people throwing old cabbages and shit at him all whilst I ring the bell and repeat “Shame. SHAME. SHAAAAME “.
- He married a fifteen year old at the age of twenty seven
Yep. Oh and not just any fifteen-year-old but the legendary RnB songstress Aaliyah. The pair tried their best to keep it a secret and lied on their marriage certificate stating Aaliyah was eighteen. To this day R.Kelly denies knowing Aaliyah’s real age at the time of their marriage and to that, I give a very VERY large eye roll.

2. Sued by four different women for damages, three of them were underage at the time of their incidents.
Now I don’t like to generalise these incidents as each is equally as important but because this man has so many allegations against him I would be here forever if I wrote about each in great detail.
One of these women was his former partner who he dated from ages fifteen to eighteen (Kelly was 29). She charged him with personal injuries and emotional stress to which he denied and settled out of court. Another was his seventeen-year-old intern who claimed she was treated as his personal sex slave. Kelly again denied and settled out of court. Yet another woman who was underage at the time claimed to be pregnant by Kelly and was forced to have an abortion. This case (you guessed it) was settled out of court and denied. Denied. Denied.
3. Charged with 21 counts of child pornography.
Chicago police indicted Kelly for videotaping various sexual acts with a minor. One of these sexual acts includes excretion/urination. (Heres the receipt if you’d like to read https://www.scribd.com/document/153002480/R-Kelly-Timeline-Indictment ) The tape was sent in anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times who then passed on to police. Just when you think “ladies and gentlemen we got him” Kelly posts the $750,000 bail, denies all charges and pleads not guilty in court. The jury concluded that there was no way to distinguish whether the girl on the tape was a minor and BOOM free man again.
BTW it should be noted that this happens AGAIN and he is arrested under twelve separate counts of child pornography. The judge, however, decided there was a lack of evidence to justify a search and it was dropped.
4. Accused of running a cult.
In 2017 an article surfaced stating that R. Kelly was targeting young up and coming artists and luring them into a cult. He would promise help in the music industry and instead, he would remove their phones, emotionally manipulate and have sex with them. As bizarre as this all sounds what else do you do when you’ve reached sexual predator level 100? You’ve had sex with minors, videoed it, urinated on them and have gotten away with it all. A cult seems like the next progression for someone who has been sexually, emotionally and physically manipulating women for over twenty years.
5. Countless victims come forth to make allegations.
In rolls 2018 the year of #MeToo. Where social injustice warriors crusade around telling us how perverted all of our favourite male entertainers are. I’m so thankful for this movement for bringing light to people who have been standing in the dark, holding onto some pretty scary secrets. I believe it is partly because of this movement that countless women have felt confident enough to come out with their stories and allegations about R. Kelly. The allegations that came out last year include but are not limited to: videoing and performing sexual acts with minors, sexual, emotional and physical abuse. Thanks to a BBC documentary and the Surviving R.Kelly special much needed time has gone into explaining his crimes against women and caused many of his staff to walk and speak out publicly on the injustice.
So there’s the terrible truth about it all.
If you ever think of playing Bump N Grind or I Believe I Can Fly ever again (seriously who is even still listening to his music in 2019?!) I suggest you think again. Instead, maybe listen to a cruelty-free female RnB artist such as SZA, Jorja Smith or Teyana Taylor.
